CAMBRIDGE MASSACHUSETTS TO CANANDAIGUA NEW YORK EARLY COVER. SCOTT#26 STAMP CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH. REV. DAGGETT

Clean stamp and cover. Nice item. No content. Addressed to Rev. O. E. Dagget for Mrs. Dagget.

The December number of the " National Preacher," contains a Sermon, entitled, "The time of the End uncertain," by Rev. O. E. Daggett, pastor of the South Congregational church, Hartford, Ct. The object of this discourse appears to be, to prove that we can never know with any certainty, the time of the Second Advent; and therefore, that no confidence can be placed in any of the evidence upon which the near approach of that event is predicated. It is singular that while a century ago, the whole Protestant church were endeavoring to acquire all the light possible upon the prophecies of Daniel and John, yet, now, the same church is equally anxious to throw darkness upon those prophecies.

EXTRACT FROM A LETTER Of Rev. O. E. DAGGETT, D.D

Canandaigua, N. Y., Jan. 3, 1863.

Mt Dear Sir :—That so young a State as Iowa has a Historical Society is noticeable, but the sooner such operations are begun, the better. I was much pleased with that of Wisconsin, where I was, at Madison, in May, 1862. Though only eight years old, it had already done, what could not so well be done later, for the State, besides having some things of interest in all similar collections.

I enclose you two specimens from my Colonial and Continental money, for your Historical Society. See the motto of the latter. Yours, sincerely, O. E. DAGGETT.
