Good postmark on this soiled stampless folded letter to Lewis Hines in Hagerstown. Writer looks like M. F. David and he notes that he has found land in the name of Hines and wants payment before providing further details.  Offered at half catalog due to soiled surface.

SANDY BRIDGE TENNESSEE MANUSCRIPT POSTMARK ON 1850S COVER + INSPIRATIONAL MOTTOS

Bold manuscript postmark carries into the stamp. Addressed to South Carolina. Written on the cover is the date July 11, 1859. Three of the four quadrants of the flap side carry a religious message. The are: When in this veile of sorrows I travail on in pain. we owe to God above Duty, fear & love. A man can gain nothing in the company of the vicious. Seal is intact. Letter was opened neatly at left.

Note small tear in cover and that cover flap is missing. However, neither detract from the appearance of the stamp.  Merchants & Mechanics Bank was known for issuing its own currency.
