germany-1947-cover-addressed-to-usa-food-relief-committee-new-york GERMANY - HAMBORN 1947 COVER ADDRESSED TO USA FOOD RELIEF COMMITTEE IN NEW YORK

The Council of Relief Agencies Licensed to Operate in Germany (CRALOG) was a non governmental organization created in 1946 by the American Council of Voluntary Agencies for Foreign Service and included 11 major relief agencies such as the International Red Cross. Food relief shipments to Germany had been prohibited by the U.S. until December 1945. CRALOG was created after the American Council had dispatched a survey team to occupied Germany, which had reported back on the situation in February 1946. CRALOG was then on February 19, 1946, established and designated by the Truman administration in a directive on relief contributions to Germany as the only channel through which aid to the U.S. occupation zone could go. This cover is addressed to the organization with the contents (not included) most likely seeking food, clothing or other aid. Historic cover. Hamborn postmarks. Inexpensive paper used to make envelope so it has discolored. Also opened somewhat roughly at left.
