Howard, RI, is a dead post office.  The letter is fascinating. William H. Carroll is writing to his lawyer that, while he has been pardoned after serving time for the murder of his wife, he is being dunned by some "gentlemen" for $500 and does not know what the sum is for.  He reviews his case and the circumstances of his wife's death noting that he provided her with a doctor and clergyman.  The letter to the lawyer is asking him to determine what the $500 is about.  Outstanding historic item.
