Dodds Express forwarding cover with regular mail special delivery stamp.  Note partial auxiliary mark in violet at top left.  Attractive E5 special delivery stamp. Roughly opened at left. Dodd' s Express carried parcels and luggage between Brooklyn and New York City, and Long Branch, New Jersey. The company ran from the 1860s into the 1910s . The express was founded by Amzi S. Dodd and C. J . Studley as Dodd's Express and Coach Company in the late 1850s. For a brief period in the late 1860s, The New York and Brooklyn Passenger and Baggage Company served as proprietor. Then in 1870 , the company was incorporated as the New York Transfer Company . Dodd acted as secretary and general manager under the New York Transfer Company until his death in 1890.
