Year:
1852 very interesting letter from Elisa to her cousin Elisabeth in South Woodstock, Connecticut. Eliza started the letter January 2, 1852 and tells "Lizzie" that she has moved to Warrenh, RI to teach school. She mentions 149 scholars in the school. Page 2 starts on March 9. She explains the delay: "The next day, January 3, I had an attack of bleeding at the lungs, and at the advise of Dr Gushee decided to leave school immediately. Had a renewed attack on Sunday again on Tuesday." She details her malady extensively including "dry hacking cough" and also notes she has taken a room in Providence where she is consulting a Dr. Wheaton. She is also very religious. "The past has been a season of trial as you will readily imagine, but I assure you not without consolation. I feel that my life, health & all that I possess are at the disposal of a kind, heavenly Father...". She also hints that she would like to convalesce for two weeks at Elisabeth's (closet myself in your quiet home). Lots of detail and religious text in this easy to read letter...started January 2 and ultimately finished and mailed March 15, 1852. THERE ARE FIVE LETTERS IN THIS GROUP.
