This is another in a series of letters among the Platt sisters...Elisa, Jane and Mary. This missive from Mary to Elisa.  She doesn't think she has a lot of news but weaves in the following: "Augusta Baldwin was buried Sabbath afternoon in Waterbury She died with typhoid fever...Mr. Russel Burns lost their little boy the next week after you left; he had the croup...Mrs. Donald is going to Wisconsin to spend the remainder of her days with her children." And then there is this..."I have heard that Mr. Eaton is released but refuses to come home. His brother, it seems, has tried to make him believe that the child his wife (gave birth to) after he left is none of his. I heard she wrote to him to have him name it saying if he should never live to come back she should like to have him name the child...". Four pages of news and scandal.
