NORFOLK VIRGINIA 1832 STAMPLESS FOLDED LETTER TO "YALE COLLEGE", CONNECTICUT - BAKER

Year:

1832
Virginia

Another of the Baker letters. See them all.  Otis Baker writes to brother Oliver who is a student at Yale in New Haven. Oliver has written of "having a pleasant time at the fraternal residence." Otis says: "For myself, I do not expect any pleasure from a visit there. Our brother Calvin has always been so bitter to me that I never expect anything but gall from him. I understand by your letter that he is reaping a rich harvest from that timber lot. Am glad that it proves a source of so muchprofit to him. Could I expect any favor of him I would ask this one that he would veal (sic) those foul aspersions which he has so venomously uttered against me to all the neighbors." He continues with news of his life including a stay at the Steam Boat Hotel; a stop at Plymouth; a certificate he received signed by the President and much more.  Three full pages of correspondence. Very interesting and easy reading. Note hole where the seal was broken on page 3 of the letter. Otherwise all is in good shape. Postmark is almost complete...about standard for this Post Office.
