Another of the Baker letters. See them all. This letter is to Oliver Baker from Richard Badeau who has found his calling in life. He writes (spelling is his): "...it has appeared to me for some years past the calling which I am to follow through this (wilderness) world is to be the mercantile business. I am aware that we are by our natural faculties adabted to diferent occupations & spheres of usefulness & I have come to this conclustion. In view of ths & by watching the apparent leadings of providence." He laments his lack of education ("I left school and have forgotten most of what I did know.") and comments that he left the family grocery busines "on account of selling liquor". Newsy interesting, easy to read letter. Paper has discolored. Postmark light but readable. Usual tear where seal was broken.
