Nice large New York 19 maritime mark on this cover. Mark is reported to be used only in 1857 and 58, but this cover clearly 1859. Mailed September 14 with pencil notation at left "Rec'd Sept. 29/59 Birmingham. London receiver in top center. Per Africa in lower left is the ship that transported the cover. Sent to Mr. Irving Grimnell, care of Baring Brothers, London. Cover opened a bit roughly at top. No contents. 1980s sale price on cover is $40.
