Letter from Benjamin Hale in Hanover to his sister Sarah in Newbury, Massachusetts. Filled with family news including this: "I saw a man a day or two since, a Mr. Stevens, native of Hampstead, who said he was a service mate with our grandfather Hale at the capture of Burgoyne. I told him I did not know before that my grandfather was out in the service." This is a Revolutionary War reference. Note that this postmark is not listed in red for 1831 in ASCC. Nor is it listed with a manuscript day mark.
