An 1844 Boston postmark stampless letter from Anna to her sister in Wilmington, Massachusetts, regarding health of the family…”mother was comfortable and Jonathan was confined to his room”. She hopes “Jona” can gain some employment and asks her sister to visit...”the Lowell train is only 40cts”. Concerning herself she writes: “I have had the aque in my face a good deal for two weeks past so that I have not been out but twice and then I took cold in my talk both times but as soon as my face gets well I mean to go out and get a firkin of butter…”.
The letter continues with references to exchanges of foodstuffs. Nice look into early living in Massachusetts. Note words no longer in common use in her letter…aque and firkin. Postmark is light and has been identified as Boston mark 215 by a previous owner. Red PAID mark is #230. Condition generally good with slight soiling and tear where seal was broken. Also minor separation at two fold intersections.
