The letter requests Carroll & Crosby to send writer Haley 10 barrels of Lin(seed?) oil soon "we shall want it in a few days". He requests "that he ought to put his oil into better barrels - we find it necessary to empty them immediately to save the oil and the barrels when emptied are utterly worthless." Carroll & Crosby (Carroll misspelled Carol by the writer) dealt in artist supplies, but being located in a small city, also provided services as a druggist. Could not find a listing for Haley & Goodhue, merchants...although there are a number of listings for each person as an individual. Letter is in very good conditon. Premium New London, Conn. postmark.
