Pawlet, Vermont...unusual destination for these two business letters from New York City. Both to G. W. Harmon. G. W. Harmon was a well-known attorney in the Pawlet/Rutland area of Vermont, representing many residents in legal matters. Cornelius McCoon was a prominent merchant in New York City, having been born there in 1810. He founded the grocery house of McCoon & Sherman at 51 Front Street. McCoon retired from the grocery business in 1845, though continued to serve as director of the Merchants’ Bank and the Second Avenue Railroad. McCoon resided in a townhouse on the north side of Madison Square at 17 East 26th Street. No information available on Loomis & Tuttle.

Letters are dated 1834 and 1846 and discuss notes owed to Harmon.  Note 18 cent rate on McCoon/Sherman letter. Both letters in very good condition.
