Year:
Short note written by Stoughton Connecticut postmaster F. Williams to Alexander Abell, who was commissioned by President John Tyler to write an flattering biography of him in an effort to improve his public image. In exchange, Abell was appointed consul to Hawaii. Apparently, Williams was none too fond of Tyler as he refers to him as “his excellency” and informs Abell he has sold the book for fifty cents. Excellent condition.
